My sister

after not being able to skype with my dad and family for about 3 weeks, i finally was able to today and my 3 year old sister came on and said,

“hi sissy, I have gum in my mouth. Bye!”

and that was it….

after 3 weeks without communication that was all the conversation she needed to be satisfied.

i thought it was adorable but also interesting; she didnt need to hear that i loved her or that i was safe, because maybe for her those basic questions were  answered by the fact that i called. and she didnt feel like she needed to say that she loved me or tell me that she was safe, because i guess in her mind the fact that she had gum in her mouth meant that her world is pretty great. so maybe all that… or maybe shes just 3…

either way, i do love that kid and i know she loves me and im so thankful to God that despite EVERYTHING this week on both sides of the world that me and my loved ones are safe and both in a position to chew gum.

SICK internship profile

what up gangsta’s
brief news update, basically just for ‘proof of life’.

so, i was going for a different type of internship but alas i can no longer claim ‘med-kit free since 93’ as lydia and i have been proudly announcing to all who care.
so i am humbled indeed…

for the last week or two i had unknowingly been rocking either strep throat, tonsillitis or a general  ‘something swollen and not right’*** as diagnosed by lydia, myself, a sweet flashlight and the internet. i knew it hurt to swallow but didnt think much of it until one day when some of the Filipino’s were complaining about how hot it was but i felt totally fine… this was NOT normal. lydia figured out that it was because i had a fever, cause shes pretty AND smart and really just the whole (internship partner) package.

so anyways, i was sick*** (SEE PICTURE: its the best pic i could get – but check; left tonsil is like 3X the size as the right)

not cool throat…

feverishly not cool…

now, it may or may not have had something to do with a friday night of karaoke followed by a sunday night of videoke but really, is there a problem, or anyone that can be blamed for two fantastic nights of screaming air supply and queen songs? i think we all know the answer…

so that…

a general lack of sleep due to roosters, dogs, occasionally fearing for my well-being at 3am

and all that “3rd world” jazz

no celine dion solos or appetite for a week

so now the med- kit is officially opened and i dont even care cause i feel like a million pesos!

ALSO if i hadn’t gotten sick then i never would have remembered all the sweet stuff thats in there! now i can either sell it off to buy more illegal DVD’s… OR…. have a 1990’s themed rave sometime before i leave…. both good options.

so all around its safe to say, praise the Lord for free drugs!

now – on another topic

our internship profiles are up on the SP website and gosh darn we are a good looking group of development agents! ( we miss you ted and hailey…)

Video killed the blogging star

Well lovers

Itaas Ang Bubong

The Ate’s (older sisters) got me some wine for my birthday not realizing that Lyd and i werent able to have any alcohol. This was Ate Tina at her finest… acting as an ‘Old saloon bartender’ and wearing the wig she had on when they all surprised me: Surprisingly she had had NO WINE at all… shes just hilarious and crazy!

Barbie’s Private Time

So yep, when I post these Q & A’s from my reports (see last post) its totally a cop-out of a blog post, perong (but) i think the things that come out of answering these questions have been helpful for me to process this world and might give you a glimps into my life here. so without further adieu…

June 30 Report: Question 6.

Please list the professional goals you established at the beginning of the internship and report on progress made toward these goals:

“One way that I am making progress towards my goal of learning how to minister to women in crisis is just from being here at our ministry. Everyday I witness firsthand the transformation process the ministry has established and can see how they practically bring a woman, broken and from the streets to a place of being free and working to honour herself, her family and ultimately God. I have seen in action what I have already believed to be true – that it is not just about getting women off the street but that it is about rebuilding them as people. It is holistic healing that really transforms women in the long term, because a rescued woman who isn’t taught to value herself the way God values her will soon re-sell herself to another form of slavery; whether it is prostitution, a bad relationship or something else.”

Lydia updated her blog…

…and since we do everything but pee together (except that one time…) its a good update on my adventures too.

also im discovering that part of the reason that people have blogs is the same reason that most people get gym memberships; they think that if they have one then they’ll use it.
